Founder and author of vacaywork travel blog

I’m Sahana Kulur, the founder of Vacaywork, a travel blog where history, culture, and human connections take centre stage. As an architect by profession and a writer by passion, I combine my love for historical places, handmade crafts, and travel storytelling to create engaging narratives that go beyond typical travel guides.

My fascination with history and architecture isn’t just a hobby—it’s a lifelong obsession. I’ve explored 16 Indian states before even stepping out of the country, and my travels have taken me across the world, always in my signature handwoven cotton sarees. I don't just visit places; I connect the dots—finding similarities between Bijapur and Iran, tracing the origins of Athangudi tiles, or decoding the history behind Austria’s thriving forests.

This passion has led me to become a monthly contributor to Deccan Herald, where I write about India’s rich handicrafts and traditions. My storytelling has also landed me as a guest on India’s top travel podcast, The Musafir Stories, where I’ve shared my experiences exploring:

Madurai – The cultural capital of Tamil Nadu
Bijapur – A city echoing Indo-Islamic architecture
Chikmagalur – The land of coffee and heritage
Beyond travel, I’ve also spoken on the Self Growth with Sonja LD podcast about how travel heals, empowers, and strengthens relationships, particularly during midlife changes.

I don’t believe in bucket lists or country counts—travel, for me, is about solving problems, embracing cultures, and meeting fascinating people. Whether it’s navigating Thailand without knowing the language or convincing my 55-year-old mum to take her first international trip, I cherish the stories that come from every journey.

If you’re looking for a guest who can talk about travel experiences, history, cultural quirks, and personal growth through travel, I’d love to share my stories on your podcast!
